The first section, Background, gives an account of previous work on the site, the territory of the Silures, the Roman network in S Wales, and the physcial setting. The second part describes the excavations of the defences, road system, the main E gate, two major groups of granaries, latrines, some extramural structures, and the coarse pottery type-series. The fortress was occupied for a short time, c AD 58 to 66/7, probably by Legio XX. It was replaced by Caerleon. |
