Abstract: |
Ten of Roy Davies's most important papers are reprinted with some editorial annotations to bring them more up to date. Much of the work is based on 'unofficial' documents of the Roman army and therefore likely to remain of fundamental importance. They cover joining the army; daily life of the soldier under the Principate; Fronto, Hadrian, and the Roman army; the training grounds of the cavalry; Roman Wales and the military practice camps; 'Cohortes equitatae'; the supply of animals and the remount system; the military diet; the military medical service; and the investigation of some crimes in Roman Egypt. |
