Abstract: |
The objective of the research earthwork programme is to simulate the typical domestic scale ditch and bank of a prehistoric site, and then observe and measure the rate and scale of the erosion which naturally takes place. The period it is hoped to simulate with today's weather is that of about 300 BC to AD 200. An octagonal design was arrived at (related to points of the compass) and six variables are tested in each of the eight sides. The Wroughton earthwork to this pattern is on Lower Chalk near Barbury Hillfort, and the data tables for it are enhanced with computer-generated graphics. |
