A volume in the New Studies in Archaeology series deals with NW Europe, especially Germany, Denmark, Britain and Ireland, from mid-6th millennium to mid-3rd (Corded Ware horizon). It reaffirms the central role of theory and interpretation but recognizes that archaeological hypotheses can rarely if ever be tested. Chapter 1 explores the 'inference of limits', and succeeding chapters deal with chronology, the economy and settlement, differing scales of use of material culture, differing modes of burial, and the importance of considering time and scale in the production of explanations of observed phenomena. |
