Abstract: |
The site revealed a long and complex series of intercutting features from the construction of the fortress in c AD 55 to the Home Guard trenches of 1940. Excavations on the Cattle Market and other sites revealed details of the Roman road system, the workshops of the fortress, an officer's house, and colonnades and compounds. The plan of the fortress is discussed, as are some details of the presumed short-lived Flavian fort which succeeded the fortress. Pottery is listed in feature descriptions but not illustrated. |
