Abstract:
The site lies on the north-eastern side of Ledbury and consists of a system of earthworks over much of the development area comprising possible house platforms, channels and lynchets that may be associated with former settlement in this area. It is likely that the site was under cultivation in the medieval period as aerial photographs show the remains of small fields and ridge and furrow nearby, overlain by the modern field system. However, the evidence for medieval activity revealed by the evaluation was slight ( - two sherds of pottery). The trenches produced no evidence of structures or building remains in the vicinity of the possible platforms, and a modern clay pipe following the course of one of the channels visible on the surface suggested that this and the other channels on the site actually represent a modern field drainage system.[AIP]
