Abstract: |
Archaeological desktop assessment indicated that a proposed development site at Manor Farm, Hardwick probably lay within part of a former manorial enclosure which may have been occupied by buildings from at least the medieval period. This was most clearly indicated by a map of 1587 and supported by both documentary evidence and archaeological survey of the surrounding area. The site may therefore have contained the buried remains of Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval timber and/or stone buildings, boundary walls and ditches or other features associated with the manor.
