Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment indicated that the area proposed for development was the centre of the potting industry in the town during the 17th century, and that the site was located within the outer bailey of the medieval castle. Adjacent excavations previously showed Saxon, medieval and post-medieval archaeological deposits to be well preserved, and it was considered likely that this would be the case within the potential development area.
