Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief during groundworks for the construction of an extension to the north side of the church revealed a brick grave-surround pre-dating the vestry, several burials, and the foundations of the north wall of the church. The north wall foundation was fairly insubstantial and comprised irregular courses of cobble and unworked stone fragments. Several large, roughly-worked blocks of stone were present in the foundations below one of the two 12th century pilaster buttresses, but there was no evidence that these represented parts of an earlier wall. It was noted that the west wall overlay a chamfered plinth-stone similar to the bases of the two buttresses. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
