Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment and walk over survey of land surrounding Tendley Quarry was commissioned. No SAMs or listed buildings lay within the application area. 15 sites of cultural heritage interest were identified in the vicinity of the proposed quarry, most notably a number of burials found within the existing quarry, 19th century quarry workings and a limekiln. No new features were identified during the walkover survey. One quarry and its associated limekiln would be preserved in situ, while a second smaller quarry would be destroyed. The remains of a building depicted on the First Edition OS map may be preserved in situ. The proposed extension to the quarry would have an unquantifiable impact on any surviving remains with no surface trace. No further work was recommended on the sites that would be preserved in situ or on the quarry that would be destroyed. However, a programme of trial trenching was recommended to establish the likely impact of the development on unknown sites. [Au(abr)] |
