Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained from the 6th January to the 27th January during the ground reduction works associated with the new road, the excavation of drainage and service trenches, and the excavation of a large 3m square inspection hole. The site is located in the town to the rear of the properties facing the High Street. A small number of medieval or probably medieval refuse pits were recorded across the area, plus walls which can be related to structures shown on 19th and 20th century maps. The features were recorded below overburden ranging from 1.2-17m and there were all cut into the natural clay 'Head' deposit. [Au] |
