Abstract: |
The report summarised the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken by AOC Archaeology on the 23rd and 24th of January 2001. A previous evaluation (FDN 97) and an archaeological watching brief (BGL 97) had been undertaken by PCA in 1998. This report combined the results of both archaeological evaluations. In both evaluations a single trench was excavated. The 1998 evaluation revealed evidence for post-medieval demolition and levelling and medieval horticultural deposits. The 2001 evaluation was excavated adjacent to the area previously investigated. Archaeological deposits of a similar nature to those identified by the previous works survived in limited areas of the trench whilst the majority of the investigated area was made up of modern construction and demolition.
