Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment carried out in 1997 had revealed the high potential for archaeological remains dating from the late prehistoric along the path of the chosen route of the pipeline. Topsoil stripping under archaeological control revealed two well defined clusters of archaeological features. The largest and most significant group consisted of thirty-one features, comprising pit and post-hole clusters, boundary and/or enclosure ditches and a possible post hole structure. The second group consisted of two pits and a section of a ditch. The majority of features provided dateable material, with two main phases of activity represented, Late Bronze Age and Early/ Middle Saxon period.[Au(abr)] |
