Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment was carried out in advance of the proposed redevelopment of a Grade II listed building. The site lay partly over Bridewell Palace, once the chief London residence of Henry VIII. A previous watching brief had recorded fragments of arched brick foundations which had formed part of the palace, and evidence of medieval reclamation and revetting. Other waterfront activity, as well as medieval leather objects and Roman pottery, had also been recorded in the surrounding area. It was concluded that parts of the site had good archaeological potential, and that trial work would be necessary.[AIP] |
