Abstract: |
Excavations were undertaken in advance of the installation of an underground electricity cable - part of a power line from Brigg to Scunthorpe East - where the cable easement ran along the edge of a field containing earthworks of probable medieval/post-medieval date, adjacent to Scawby Road, and in a field bordering Spring Dike. Although a trackway and associated small bridge over an old field dike and three east-west boundary features, shown to be open in the 17th century and backfilled by the 19th century, were identified, the excavations revealed that the majority of archaeological features were concentrated in the adjacent area protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
