Abstract: |
The historic landscape analysis was included in this report and was carried out earlier in 2002. It identified a number of features surviving from the late 18th/19th centuries. These were mainly boundary and retaining walls and a fragment of Marlborough Lodge. Alfred Hill still retained its surface of granite seats. The subsequent archaeological evaluation in 2005 did not reveal the presence of any archaeology pre-dating the late 18th century. A study of geotechnical data reinforced the evidence obtained from the evaluation concerning the existence of made-ground throughout the study area which suggested that considerable dumping of material took place to alter the gradient of the hill-slope before development began in the late 18th century.
