| Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken as a preliminary stage in the development proposals for mixed land use. The lack of evidence from the site did limit the detail of any archaeological potential. However, some broad statements could be made: (i) The period most likely to be represented on the site was Roman, although material from other periods, particularly Bronze Age, may have occurred. Saxon and medieval could not be discounted though were, perhaps, less likely. (ii) Later remains i.e. Roman, Saxon, medieval evidence was more likely to be encountered on the northern side of the site, though a medieval proximity to Burwell Road was possible. (iii) Given the location of earlier monuments, principally mapped from aerial photography, any Bronze Age remains might be expected to be to the south side. [Au(adp)] |
