Abstract: |
A series of trial trenches revealed a plough soil with Roman and middle Saxon finds buried beneath hillwash at the bottom end of the field close to Low Road. There was a Neolithic pit close to the road and two Bronze Age features were excavated at the north western end of the field. These appeared to be fairly isolated and there was compelling evidence of agricultural erosion particularly towards the top of the slope. The occupation debris in the buried plough soil may have been related to Roman and Early Medieval settlement of the high-ground overlooking the site for which there was good evidence. [Au(adp)] |
