Abstract:
Excavation and watching briefs were carried out at Ulph Place. Archaeological features including a probable wall footing, pits, ditches and post holes were excavated and pottery of Late Saxon, early medieval and post-medieval date was recovered as well as ceramic building material, animal bone and quantities of shell. A number of deposits of creamy yellow silt were excavated. These may have been deposited during episodes of flooding at the site or may have been lain deliberately as a levelling surface. In one case deposits of silt were contained within a small flat-bottomed hollow and elsewhere a small area of the silt had been heavily burnt and probably represented a hearth. [Au(abr)]
