Abstract: |
An initial evaluation, consiting of the excavation of 56 trenches and fieldwalking survey, of land proposed for a crematorium development, identified that archaeological features dating from the prehistoric were probably present across the major part of the area of proposed development. The features comprised predominantly pits and ditches. The number of finds within the features was quite low, and conversely, the quantity of struck flint within the ploughsoil was good. Two archaeological periods were represented: the datable pottery from the features appeared to be of late Bronze Age or early Iron Age date; the flint from the filedwalking appeared to date from the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age.
