Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of a series of trenches along the length of the entire road. The site lay adjacent to the south-west of the Roman fortress and adjacent to the Roman road that linked York to Tadcaster (Calcaria). Previous excavations had revealed evidence for Roman settlement and burial activity, as well as the remains of the 17th century Civil War Star-fort. Despite the wealth of archaeological remains in the area nothing of archaeological significance was revealed. [AIP] |
