Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out consisting of 27 trenches on agricultural land in advance of proposed landscaping of the site for polo fields. 78 features were identified dating to the Neolithic, Early Bronze Age, Iron Age and post-medieval periods. The prehistoric feature types included: pits, post holes, ditches, gullies and there was one post-medieval quarry pit. Finds included: prehistoric animal bone (some burnt) and evidence of Neolithic antler working, prehistoric/beaker pottery and worked flint. 52 features were undated. All features were cut into natural deposits. The Iron Age evidence was seen as being of local importance, the earlier prehistoric features were seen as being of at least regional and possibly national importance. [AIP] |
