Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken in advance the development of the site which consisted of a ten storey building over the basement of the demolished building. The site lay within a conservation area stipulated by the Corporation of London and had been designated as an area of both 'limited archaeological potential' and of 'potential archaeological remains'. Two test pits were investigated Test pit 1 revealed a 0.74m sequence of stratified archaeological deposits. Early-medieval dump layers were truncated by a linear cut feature of late-medieval origin, which in turn was overlain by post-medieval dumped deposits. Test pit 2 revealed no significant archaeological deposits. [Au(adp)] |
