Abstract:
An earthwork survey was undertaken as part of the Norfolk Earthworks Survey project (NES). The major features were south of the Hall, comprising two roadways extending north and north-west from the church, the latter crossed by a north-south roadway. These were all shown on late 18th century and early 19th century maps. Enclosures abutted the road north-west of the church, with some medieval and later pottery on the surface. Possible fishponds were noted north of the church, whilst a well-defined scarp east of the hall truncated a broad ridge leafing from the hall. Further enclosures and pottery to the north suggested medieval tofts and closes. East of the church and immediately west of the water mill, an enigmatic sub-oval platform was almost certainly artificial and had yielded medieval and Middle Saxon pottery. [Au(adp)]
