Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken on land at the rear of properties fronting the High Street, with which they were once combined to provide long, narrow burgage plots. The only sites of archaeological importance revealed by documentary research and field visits were the boundaries of the burgage plots although sites identified within the proximity of the development area included a Roman finds scatter, late medieval and post-medieval settlement and industrial activity. The limited nature of the documentray serach was noted and it was recommended that further archaeological investigations be undertaken. [AIP] |
