Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. The route of Roman Ermine Street passed nearby, and two early medieval glass beads had been found within yards of the site. A 12th century religious house which had later become a hospital lay in the vicinity. Civil War defences had been constructed in the area in 1642. In the late 17th century, the site lay within the silk manufacturing area of Spitalfields. It was concluded that an evaluation would be necessary. [AIP] |
