Abstract: |
An evaluation excavation revealed a large boundary ditch, aligned on an east-west axis and at 90 degrees to the medieval town's defensive ditch (Magnum Fossatum). It survived in a good state of preservation within, and towards the northern limits of the site. No dating evidence was recovered from the excavation of the ditch, but its alignment suggested that it was part of the rectilinear street pattern laid out within the town's defensive ditch in the early 13th century. No other archaeological features were encountered. [Au] |
