Abstract: |
A desk based assessment of the proposed site of a motorway service area identified that a possible Roman ditched trackway, evident as a cropmark, may have extended onto the site. Within a 1km radius, several defensive sites relating to WWII had been recorded, including an anti-tank ditch, pill boxes and a road barrier. The site of an 11th century water mill, an early medieval manor and a medieval estate and manor had also been recorded in the area. It was concluded that the site had a low to medium potential for archaeological remains, and that a scheme of investigation and mitigation should be implemented prior to construction work. [AIP] |
