Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was conducted in advance of a proposed development, consisting of a single trench. The work proved that there had been heavy truncation of the ground surface before the late 19th century. This may have occurred during the extensive remodelling of the house and grounds that took place between 1858 and 1897. No features predating this truncation were found. Foundations of two glasshouses and two garden paths were exposed, all post-dated the truncation of the site. These features were shown on OS maps dating from 1897 onwards and were of low archaeological importance. No further archaeological work was required. [Au(adp)] |
