Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out on the site. A previous geophysical survey of the site had identified several anomalies. The site was in an area of poorly drained pasture land until the 13th century when it became part of a deer park. Ditches and gullies identified in the evaluation were probably part of a drainage system for the park. Post-medieval ground raising was noted along the banks of the ditches, probably created for the three water mills which operated in the area by 1625. Larger later ditches were probably fiefs boundaries. [Au(abr)] |
