Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation demonstrated the presence of extensive archaeological remains in the south-eastern and north-western limits of the site. Of particular interest was the anaerobic nature of the clayey silts in the south-east of the site which produced a well preserved, medieval leather shoe sole and a fragment of waste leather. A number of sherds of medieval pottery dating to between the late 11th and 14th centuries were also recovered. Archaeological features were also found to have been preserved beneath a great depth of modern material in the north-west of the site. Evidence from trenches in the south-western and central areas of the site suggested that most archaeological features had been destroyed by modern activity. [Au] |
