Abstract: |
<summary>Archaeological recording was undertaken during the upgrading of a track on the southern edge of Salisbury Plain Training Area. The length of track observed ran from a point south-west of Robin Hood's Ball to the north-west corner of Crane's Folly plantation, with cursory observations during stripping as far as 700 metres to the north-east of Crane's Folly. 192 features cut into the natural chalk surface - in addition to an unquantified number of linear periglacial and ploughmark features - were observed, of which 48 were examined. Nine of these were proven to be of anthropogenic origin, comprising pits and ditch features; the remaining features were all shown to be tree-holes, solution or periglacial features, modern features of military origin, or combinations of all these. {italon}AIP {italoff} |
