Abstract: |
Excavations revealed that the area was reclaimed from the River Wear by ballast dumping in the 16th and 17th centuries. A sequence of riverside structures and cellarage running from the late 17th to the early 19th centuries was revealed, providing much new information on the post-medieval development of Sunderland.
