Abstract: |
The assessment indicated that the site lay within an area of high archaeological potential with Mesolithic, Roman, Saxon and medieval sites all found within 1km of the current brickworks. In particular, the site lay less than 0.5km from a major Saxon cemetery at Ulwell and a medieval manor house at Godlingston. One site, a linear cropmark, lay within the development area, however this may have been a medieval or post-medieval field boundary. A small quantity of worked flint was also recovered. The existing brickworks contained elements that were likely to be of industrial archaeological importance.[Au(abr)] |
