Abstract: |
A desk-based study of Crown Estate land near Bingham identified that a number of archaeological sites (some of which were considered to be of national importance) lay within the Crown Estate holding, including a section of the Roman Fosse Way; the Roman small town of Margidunum; a Romano-British pottery concentration north of Saxondale Roundabout; a Late Neolithic and Bronze Age flint concentration at Saxondale Roundabout; the site of a Romano-British villa at Newton Lane; a complex of cropmarks at Parson's Hill to beyond Holme Farm; and the site of an Anglo-Saxon inhumation at Parson's Hill. The area was also identified as containing alluvial deposits of high palaeo-environmental significance. [AIP] |
