Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during excavation for a new driveway. An area of interest was revealed at the northern end of the driveway where a dense cluster of archaeological remains was represented. Pits, gullies, ditches and postholes were revealed indicating fairly intensive activity. Limited excavation was undertaken revealing that, in spite of plough damage, the features had retained some depth. Finds recovered during the work largely indicated a later Saxon date providing interesting evidence for the earliest medieval activities in the village. Residual flintwork also indicated prehistoric (Late Mesolithic and Neolithic/Bronze Age) activity in the area. [Au(abr)] |
