Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken of the proposed site for the relocation of the Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club. The site was assessed as having a high potential for containing remains of Bronze Age, Iron Age and Romano-British date. With the exception of the finding of an unspecified quantity of prehistoric pottery in the field proposed as the area of the stadium there was no other evidence to suggest any such sites were located within the proposed development areas themselves. However, the presence of numerous ancient field systems, other agricultural settlements and artefact find-spots showed that the immediate area had seen intense occupation in these periods.
