Abstract: |
<summary>Excavation of three trial trenches in advance of works associated with the Town Wall Walkway revealed a possible pre-town wall defensive ditch, the medieval town wall and an associated tower base, a medieval pit, and later layers of unknown date. Part of a limestone drum (angle) tower was exposed in the westernmost trench. It had been inserted into the town wall and jutted into the town ditch. {italon}Sec(abr/adp)(2,4b){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SOU 445 (Southampton City Council, Heritage Management investigation identification no) |
