Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of the proposed site of a retail development was undertaken. Prehistoric artefacts dating from the palaeolithic to the bronze age had been recorded in the vicinity, and part of an iron age oppidum lay on the site itself. Roman cremations and pottery and medieval remains, including a ship and a pottery kiln, had been recorded nearby. In the late 16th-18th centuries, part of the site was occupied by a ropeyard. An archaeological evaluation was recommended. [AIP] |
