Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed redevelopment site was undertaken. Artefacts and sites of all periods from the palaeolithic to Roman times, including an iron age settlement, had been recorded in the surrounding area. A single early medieval coin was recovered nearby; settlement had been documented since the 12th century. Levelling up had occurred over most of the site, prior to construction of the Woolwich Arsenal in the early 19th century. Previous borehole data for the site showed that significant geoarchaeological deposits were present. Geophysical and geoarchaeological surveys were recommended. [AIP] |
