Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed residual finds from several historical periods. These included prehistoric burnt flint and retouched flint tools; a piece of middle Saxon loom weight; a medieval silver coin; and several sherds of medieval and post-medieval pottery. These finds were found mainly in the upper level of the deposit and its interface with the overlaying post-medieval subsoil. Given that the brickearth contained finds from several historical periods, but no actual archaeological features associated with them, they probably represented secondary deposition through reworking of the brickearth by human and biological action throughout the medieval and post-medieval periods. Two post-medieval post holes, subsoil and make-up deposits and garden soil overlayed the brickearth in all the trenches. No other archaeological features were found during the evaluation. [Au] |
