Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the site contained only one feature of potential interest, a pond which may originally have been a quarry pit. Bronze Age barrows and findspots had been recorded to the east of the site, and a possible Iron Age enclosure to the west had been located by aerial photography. Two Roman farmstead sites lay in the area. Saxon and medieval settlement had been documented, and a Christian cemetery and church of probable pre-Conquest date had been excavated some distance to the east. Winwick had been the site of two English Civil War battles. [AIP] |
