Abstract: |
Three trenches (9.2m by 1.8m, 10m by 1.9m and 8.6m by 1.85m) were excavated under archaeological supervision within the footprints of the three blocks of the proposed residential development. The trenches in the centre and to the south of the site revealed overburden above two agricultural/horticultural horizons capping London Clay deposit. The natural clay and ploughsoils sloped from north to south following the natural slope of the land. Trench 1, at the north of the site, revealed a brick structure of c.19th century date, including an arched cellar which had been backfilled in the 20th century. No significant archaeological remains were encountered. [Au(adp)] |
