Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out in advance of proposals to build houses at the site. A number of archaeological features were recorded, including Roman ditches, post holes, pits, and a wall, all preserved by a 1920s tennis court. A large natural linear feature and a linear cut, along with a number of post holes were also located. The excavated evidence suggested the presence of a medieval field system in the north-east corner of the site. Medieval and Roman deposits occured on the site, and the central part was thought to be archaeolgically sterile. However, a considerable layer of colluvium may have obscured some archaeological features. [Au(abr)] |
