Abstract: |
The larger part of the areas under discussion, a length of nearly 100m, lay within the precinct of the Close, with the remaining part lying within the ancient parish of Holy Trinity. The City Wall, originating in the late second century, formed the division, and it remained a barrier until the 1750s. Outside the wall lay a ditch, also originally of Roman date, but enlarged during the medieval and Civil War periods. [Au(adp)] |
