Abstract: |
The watching brief was conducted during the cutting of an electrical cable trench between Caythorpe Gas Production Site and Brett Street Electrical Sub-station, Bridlington for a distance of c.6km. The route passed through an area rich in archaeological remains of the prehistoric, Roman and medieval periods. The watching brief showed that for most of its length the route of the cable trench cut through made-up ground or the backfill of earlier service trenches. The only area where archaeological features were observed was within the playing fields adjacent to the Bridlington Sports Centre, where two undated parallel ditches equated to probable medieval toft boundaries known from aerial photographs (TA 1710 6738). A third ditch on a different alignment was also identified immediately to the east. [Au] |
