Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a layer of gravel containing 19th century pottery. This was overlain by alluvial silt, which contained occasional fragments of London Stock bricks. Impressions in the surface of the silt were probably hoof prints, wheel ruts and grooves made by the keels of boats, and were preserved when they were filled in during land reclamation. Current evidence suggested that most of the site was reclaimed from the Thames in the early to mid-19th century. [Au(abr)] |
