Abstract: |
The site lay in a valley floor considered to have a higher archaeological potential than surrounding areas, but a search of the SMR had revealed few entries for the environs of the site other than for the medieval/post-medieval mill which lay to the east. Documentary and cartographic evidence indicated that the mill had stood on, or very close to, the site since medieval times. The present building complex incorporated a few elements of earlier (19th century) mill structures on the site and it was entirely plausable that components of earlier post-medieval and medieval mills would have survivied.
