Abstract: |
A geophysical survey was carried out over the evaluation area (the proposed site of new Park and Ride facilities), and the results used to determine the position of seven machine-excavated trenches. Within the trenches very little evidence for human activity was recorded. Isolated pits and ditches were found, all of them appeared to be heavily trucated. Pottery and flint, mostly recovered from the subsoil, was attributed to the Neolithic/Early Bronze Age and to the Iron Age. Modern activity was represented by a regular alignment of large post-pits. It was considered probable that prehistoric evidence on the site had largely been disturbed by modern agricultural practices, and now existed only in the ploughzone. [Au(abr)] |
