Abstract: |
A watching brief revealed the remains of brick works, one phase pre-dating 1939 and another phase post-dating 1939. The earlier brickworks were recorded including nine circular brick kilns along with associated building walls, flues and working floors. Two of these brick kilns were sectioned and provided additional information regarding its form and construction. Bricks and residues were sampled, and a number of finds collected. A stone built store was partly revealed at the northern side of the site. This had been truncated on the north side by 20th century opencast mining. It was recommended that the results of this work be published in an appropriate journal of industrial archaeology. [Au(adp)] |
